In this and subsequent news posts we'll be talking to an exhibitor. We will be discussing their vision for the upcoming season, trends and colours and of course their offer on MoOD+Indigo. Annette Van Driessche, Brand & Commerce Manager at Beaulieu Fabrics, gets the ball rolling.
Beaulieu is known for its trendy yet timeless designs. What trends do you think will endure in the coming seasons?
Ecology and recycling are there to stay and will continue to be indispensable. People care more & more about our planet. And so do we, designers and weavers alike. Besides those two, I found the 'Afrofuturism' theme on the MoOD+Indigo trend blog a very familiar trend. We translate this trend to a blend of ethnic & contemporary fabrics. After all, it's not just about design. Fabrics also tell a story. A story in which people can identify with themselves and feel at home. Nowadays ‘nest-feeling’ is very important in the home. And how better to create a nest than with fabrics with ethnic influences combined with long-lasting structured contemporary fabrics in warm colors?
Can innovative textiles make a difference in creating luxurious interiors and exteriors?
Of course they can! Using “Easycare” for example, our brand for fabrics that can be cleaned with only water and, optionally, light soap. These fabrics are durable and they reach a high technical performance. We have designed Easycare to combine luxury with performance. These fabrics carry several labels & certificates and are eco-friendly. Which means no chemicals are being used.
People want greener and healthier places to work and live. Vegetation and interior design that stimulates creativity are very on trend. Can you give some tips for buyers who source textiles for these environments?
My advice? Buy fabrics that influence our health positively. Look for anti-bacterial fabrics or fabrics that have no added chemicals. Always remember that a healthy body brings a healthy mind. Many of our clients include relax areas in their offices and homes! Places where they have off-line moments, for yoga and meditation for instance. Also think “recycled” or “cradle-to-cradle”. Check the use of PET-yarns. Check “multi-functional”, dual purpose fabrics. They will help you create a greener environment.
What is your favourite colour tip for MoOD+Indigo?
I like the combination of skin colors with cognac and bordeaux. A tone-on-tone variation that is very much on trend right now.
For those of you that want to discover what Beaulieu Fabrics has to offer, you are cordially invited to their stand in shed 3 booth A08 at MoOD from September 11 until the 13th.
