Solely these Belgian manufacturers can use the ‘Belgian Linen’ label, which is protected in the EU, USA and China. Why? It is universally agreed that linen products manufactured in Belgium are highly sought-after.

Since linen production is a specialized domain, Belgian specialists alone have the in-depth knowledge and experience required to ensure perfection throughout the complete manufacturing process. Through the centuries, established families of flax growers, linen weavers and manufacturers of linen products have passed on their experience from generation to generation.

From September 14th to 16th these 4 companies present their fabrics at MoOD. They belong to the Belgian Flax and Linen Association. You can recognise them by the logo that they wear with pride.

Trends in yarns at Expofil Deco (Hall 6)

Fibres and yarns are becoming increasingly important. Not only the fancy yarns, but also beautifully structured yarns, chenille yarns, semi-worsted, worsted and open-end cotton yarns, worsted and woollen yarns, yarns of natural fibres, pure and blended linen yarns, textured, twisted, covered yarns, acrylic fibres and dope dyed polyester filament yarns (to name but a few) are providing an unprecedented added value.

Interior design professionals need to be familiar with the above yarns. Architects, designers, interior designers and decorators can boost their knowledge of textiles by understanding the base materials of any fabric: yarns.

At MoOD’s ‘sister trade fair’, Expofil Deco, key products are presented at a special Trend Forum, located in the heart of the fair.

To get a complete overview of forthcoming trends and technologies in fibres and yarns, 9 exhibitors present their collections at Expofil Deco. This highly specialised trade fair runs simultaneously with MoOD. Visitors to MoOD will find it in Hall 6.

Discover INDIGO'S 'Decorative INFLUENCES'

For the first time, Indigo puts the spotlight on trends for decor. Major trends are shown on a dedicated wall, 'Decorative INFLUENCES', drawing inspiration from various disciplines and archives: contemporary art, photography, design, illustration and more.

These inspirations offer a wonderful, complementary perspective on the influences that textile design cannot afford to ignore. It’s well worth taking the time to stop at the INFLUENCES wall, located at the intersection of MoOD and Indigo, in Hall 9.

Don’t miss the MoOD seminars

MoOD boasts a worldwide network of specialists.

1.
You only pay 20 euros if you pre-register. Do it today!

2.
Keep an eye on www.moodbrussels even after the event closes, as a list of selected fabrics for the Blue Drop awards appears here. The winners are also announced on the MoOD website.

3.
You can find the inner sanctum of the trade fair at the Blue Drop Bub in Hall 6. The fabrics chosen by the international Blue Drop jury as the very best are shown here. They have either received a Blue Drop nomination or a Blue Drop Award.

4.
Contract Square gathers together leading products specially developed for the contract market. Recommended by and for experts.

5.
The Re-Naissance trend forum is focused primarily on colour this year. Two themes, KISS and MEMENTO MORI are linked respectively to modern and classical architecture. The proposed colour combinations are clearly illustrated using fabrics by exhibitors. The trend forum also explains why we can expect a textile renaissance.

6.
Choose a seminar that interests you and take the time to go and listen, it’s definitely worth the effort.

7.
Fabrics are the soul of the popular outdoor room. At MoOD, find out the criteria for a good outdoor fabric and meet the largest suppliers worldwide.

Munzert (DE) submits hologram for Blue Drop selection

Gebr. Munzert is eager to present its latest creation to the professional market at MoOD. It is an exceptional product in many respects and difficult to stop staring at. Using a special weaving technique, Munzert has achieved a hologram affect.

Depending on the angle from which you look at it, you either see a knitting effect or a coral design. A fabric with two faces, in other words. This weaving technique also allows for all sorts of creativity: the number of colours, designs and effects that can be applied is practically limitless. This innovative piece is not aimed exclusively for the professional market. The upholstery fabric is equally suitable for the contract market and can even be used for outdoor applications. Munzert has sent in this stunning creation in advance to compete for the highest distinction in the sector: the Blue Drop Award.

Munzert contact details

Albert Guegain (FR) proving strong at MoOD once again

Albert Guegain & Fils is a French house with a reputation for pure class and refined taste. The company specialises in the manufacture of fabrics and embroidered trimmings. The materials used are rich: from linens, silk, tulle and organza to velvets, metallized fibres and rayon.

Albert Guegain has made a name for itself by creating highly unusual patterns through the use of elastic yarn. ‘SMOCK’ is one of its exclusive products aimed at the residential market. As you can see in the photo, the fabric is gathered with a special stitch. The company has been experimenting with ‘smock’ for a while and excels in producing new patterns. Albert Guegain will also be bringing some classics to MoOD. At the trade fair, this company mainly attracts editeurs with a passion for elegance and understated style

Bezz (TR) finds inspiration in the MoOD trend book 'Re-Naissance'

Bezz is a creative trendsetter of Turkish origin. The company is known for its imaginative creations and an innovative streak. Yasemin Gültekin tells us that they look forward to the MoOD trend book every year.

This year, they were particularly inspired by the ‘Re-Naissance’ theme and especially the sub theme of ‘Memento Mori’. Thus, they based their colour palette on the one suggested in the book and also picked up on the culture fusion theme. The resulting collection, presented at MoOD, is both classic and contemporary. Iconic themes from the past are embellished with modern touches.

Bezz contact details

'Integration' is the key word for Dizz Design (BE) - NEW

Dizz Design is brand new at MoOD and is testing the waters with a concept focused on the seamless integration of colour and design. With the slogan ‘the perfect match for this autumn’, the company creates an inspiring collection of separates conceived so that every single piece can be combined.

You can see the ‘Argus’ fabric on the picture, one of the eye-catchers the company is hoping will become an international success. The inspiration for this autumn collection came from the rich Greek history. It is a timeless arty design collection that comes in a wealthy combination of sheers, jacquards and other prominent fabrics. Dizz is a successful Belgium-based editeur of window covering fabrics who is proud to source only the highest quality materials. The company’s design department draws from diverse sources of inspiration but always accounts for decorative added value.

Ecological hall carpeting at MoOD

Do you ever ask yourself how much waste trade fairs produce? You’re not the only one. The organisers of MoOD feel pretty bad when they see how full the containers are after the fair. The hall carpeting alone accounts for a great deal of waste.

Even though a portion of it is donated to charities, for the most part the carpeting is only fit for the scrapheap. But this will change for good now, as MoOD, in consultation with its supplier Expofloorcoverings, have found a solution. From now on, the hall carpeting will be recycled. The polypropylene pellets, for example, can be reused in beer containers. Why wasn’t this done before, you ask? The carpet backing was made of a mousse that is not eligible for recycling. MoOD has switched to a carpet with another form of binding. The organisation also investigated the possibility of working with an organic material such as corn, but calculations revealed that the lowest total CO2 emitter - from planting through to scrapping - is the synthetic carpeting that will grace the walkways of MoOD in September.

Hydrophobic ‘Super Nubuck’ at Hulshof Royal Dutch Tanneries (NL)

Hulshof, the leather specialist, is taking on MoOD with its hydrophobic Super Nubuck. In other words, a Nubuck that resists water spotting and staining. This is not a coating that merely protects the surface but a Scotchgard type drum treatment.

The solution completely penetrates the 1.3 to 1.5 mm thick material which preserves its soft, velvety hand. An additional benefit of this treatment is that it makes product care easier with one simple surface treatment being sufficient. Hulshof Royal Dutch Tanneries has indicated that it will be competing for the Blue Drop Award with this range. Hulshof can boast of a long history as a leather processing company and is one of the largest in Europe. Alongside upholstery, this specialist focuses on the contract and transport markets.

One of these is the world of theatre, opera and auditoria. Gierlings Velpor, a specialist in the field, furnishes these spaces with flameproof velvets – M1 (Afnor), B1 (DIN) and BS (5852). The transport sector (bus, train, subway, boat and airplane) also makes it’s way, literally, to the door of this Portuguese company.

For MoOD, Gierlings Velpor developed a range totally based on African fauna. The velvet animal prints include giraffe, zebra and lion skin. These cheerful fabrics have the quality that the contract market demands and that the company is known for: produced in viscose and Trevira CS jacquard velvet.

Gierlings Velpor contact details

Omexco (BE) turns wallcoverings into an experience

Wall coverings are back in fashion. Omexco is reacting to demand with an abundance of creativity and numerous new designs. At MoOD, the emphasis will be on two new collections: Lotus and Semiramis. The latter is a woven jacquard with classic, stylish medallions and delightful conjunctions. Lotus, the second collection, is a wallcovering that would look great in all sorts of interiors.

It was inspired by the Art Nouveau stained glass lotus flower but comes in different styles. There is the classic Art Nouveau motif on a fleece wallpaper with a width of 1 metre. Brand new is the fleece wallpaper with foil stamping in gold and silver that comes in both matte and gloss versions. The shine of silver or gold enlivens the background colours and adds another dimension. This exceptional finish is achieved through a special in-house printing technique that results in an attractive, washable and ecologically produced product. Lotus is aimed at the contract market and is also suitable for the navy.
Alongside these wildly creative designs, visitors to Omexco can discover its subtler linen wall coverings in monochrome shades.

In the recent years, the collections offered an interesting mix, containing classic to trendy international designs.

To obtain this, the company works with different Scandinavian and Finnish freelance designers like Teija Bruhn, who also select the colour ways for Kinnamark collections. For this year’s collection, 'GOTTE', Kinnamark worked together with Louise Videlyck, who takes the design back to it’s Scandinavian roots. The new designs are a good example of the Scandinavian style: joyful, fresh and colourful. The materials are mainly cotton and linen and all products are manufactured in Europe.

That is why we have created the Blue Drop selection and awarding system.

Blue Drop already is a quality label with an international appeal that will grow in importance as more and more buyers ask for high quality and traceble fabrics. A Blue Drop label (selection) or a Blue Drop Award is an international recognition. During the trade show, the entire selection of Blue Drops and Blue Drop Awards will be shown in the new Blue Drop Bub. This sanctum sanctorum will descend upon hall 6 near the sample banks.

The Renaissance was characterized by a humanistic restoration of established influence articulated in an artistic and intellectual period and by the developments of modern science.

Directions for fabric, wallcoverings, and upholstery through 2012 are part of this rebirth. The appeal of the materials extends beyond pure aesthetic design to include enhanced properties due to technological innovations, as seen in the outdoor market. The recent years have shifted their focus to production and efficiency, and now the movement returns to the craft and the art of the process. In 17th century Italy architects created the buildings and were very involved with the entire project: creating the structure, choosing the materials, and selecting the furnishings for the interior. This holistic approach is returning. Design has become 360 degrees.

Ragolle (BE) unveils Color Mix concept

With its intentionally daring Color Mix concept, Ragolle is stirring things up. The idea behind the new approach? Less is more! In other words, a limited number of themes with a wide range of combinable colours.

Floral and Colonial are two of the themes arriving on the market in a very diverse choice of colours. What makes the new Ragolle collection so different is the fact that the colours from each theme can be readily mixed with each other. One example is the checks and stripes, each creating a particular mood with their on trend colours, complemented by harmonising or contrasting accent colours. For its Color Mix concept Ragolle chose fabrics with natural appeal that nevertheless meet the strictest standards for fire safety and wear resistance. Tests are conducted in-house and often exceed the relevant European standards.

Last year, the company gave us a multitude of fluorescent colours for the contract market. They return with another inspired theme for visitors this year. For readers of 5 Minutes MoOD, Enzo degli Angiuoni gives a tantalising glimpse of its new collection:

"Scenic, pristine glaciers and Arctic landscapes are the main sources of inspiration for the "Artika" collection. Fabric effects with frost or snow, cottons, chenilles and velvets that give a soft and warm feeling when touched; decorative panels, where sea and sky come together through a variety of colours, ranging from white to grey, the blue of the icebergs and the intense blue of the deep sea. The yellow touch of northern lights is incisive. A journey through a pure and inviolate world."

The company is responding to a growing demand for high quality, natural fibre fabrics.

Previously, it released a silk collection on the market and new decorative textures are currently being created in a blend of silk and linen. The latest from Sunbury is a reversible fabric that customers can choose how to use. The fabric can be employed without a lining for upholstery purposes but it lends itself perfectly to use as curtains.
Alongside new natural fibre collections, Sunbury is presenting its colourful outdoors collection at MoOD. The company notes that many of the qualities of fabrics intended for outdoor use are now desirable inside the house too. These fabrics offer beauty and comfort but what makes Sunbury outdoor fabrics of special interest is their unique ‘cleanability’.

Applications developed for the contract market, such as cleaning treatments, find their way into residential products to meet the equal public demand for easy maintenance.

Alhambra International (Spain) acknowledges this trend by introducing a new ‘carefree’ collection, KAVANA, on to the market. This upholstery fabric was not developed specifically for the contract market but is very easy to maintain. It is also a colourful, youthful collection with a strong colour pallet and design. The KAVANA collection has, furthermore, been developed to be as natural as possible. For example, the design you see on the photo is a blend of cotton and rayon. Rayon is a regenerated cellulose fibre. Because it is produced from naturally occurring polymers, it is a semi-natural fibre, also known as art silk. It usually has a high lustre quality giving it a bright sheen. The Kavana collection will be presented at MoOD.

A compact selection of the top contract quality products appearing at the trade fair will be presented here. MoOD is internationally acclaimed as the place-to-be for the contract market and aims to remain number 1 in this sector.

With over 50 exhibitors for whom the contract market represents over 40% of their turnover, it was high time to create a forum by and for specialists. Participants are selected based on their credentials and undoubted expertise. They bring a micro sample of their strongest contract products so that you, as building specifier, architect or interior designer, can find your way to the right exhibitor without unnecessary delay. A visit to MoOD just became even more efficient and informative!

But it received the dreamed for launch when it won the ‘Blue Drop Award for a Wall Covering’.

At times, Villani Leonello’s modest stand was simply overwhelmed by attention from media and numerous professionals. The result was a rush into full production and today the demand for Vega continues to grow. There is even a major distributor for the US, many new partnerships have been generated and the project and hospitality markets have gradually begun to take notice. In the meanwhile, Villani Leonello has designed a new wall covering based on an artistic natural leather that will be offered in rolls of up to 50 metres. The exceptional height, achieved through an ingenious technique, makes this wall covering particularly suitable for the project and hospitality markets. The fact that Villani Leonello launched this new product at MoOD is the best evidence that the trade fair plays a major role in introducing new products.

The new collection is called ‘Diamonds and Pearls’ and was introduced to the professional market at MoOD.

Swarovski beads continue to do very well on the international market and moreover are very popular in China and Russia, two markets in which the German Rasch Textil is going from strength to strength. The new collection is available as a classic wallpaper or as panels with a width of 3.20 m. The trend book that follows the MoOD 2010 fair refers to the many crafts that have enjoyed revaluation in recent years. This suggests that textile, as a last ‘real’ craft, will also see a revival.

MoOD interprets the focus on more traditional textile products as the start of a revaluation of textiles. ‘To know it is to love it’, as the saying goes. And there are other parallels with the Renaissance: references to ancient cultures, nature and the rise of Homo Universalis, that is, the blend of art and science. Two scenarios for the future are expanded on in (Re)naissance: Memento Mori and KISS. One provides a concept for the unbridled luxury of the classic interior and the other a concept for modern architecture. Memento Mori is the credo that the classics lived by: live each day like your last, make life a celebration. KISS is an acronym for Keep it Simple Smart (not the design principle Keep it Simple, Stupid) since innovation and creativity are the engine of change. At MoOD, we call this ‘Crenovation’.

Dickson Constant Sunbrella (FR) is running an image campaign using the Blue Drop Award

While it is impossible to ignore in the outdoor market, Dickson Constant Sunbrella (France) can still make good use of its Blue Drop Award for best outdoor product.

Following on this recognition at MoOD 2009, the company began an image campaign for the press, customers and suppliers. “We received a lot of media attention that would never have occurred without this award” we were told by a spokesperson from Dickson Constant. She also tells us that Dickson Constant has just finished tests for another very special outdoor product - but she can’t say any more just yet. There is a clue: it will definitely be in competition for the next Blue Drop Outdoor Award...

Calcutta’s high quality wall coverings have found a growing market in Russia, China and France.

These days, textile wall coverings are not only found in traditional interiors but increasingly in modern buildings. The sense of luxury and exclusivity plays a major role in its popularity. Textile coverings absorb sound and feel pleasant. Jacquard weaves are wallpaper aristocracy and it was about time that it emerged from its stuffy past. “Lounge is the new trend”, Calcutta tells us. So it designed a lounge collection with a contemporary look. This collection is definitely exclusive and awaits an elite group of customers to match. But Calcutta also remains loyal to the classic market. Here, however, it has noticed a growing demand for ‘personal collections’. Calcutta has, for example, designed a customised collection for the Russian market. This collection is designed with a stain resistant Teflon coating that retains the textile look of the wallpaper while also being water resistant. New creations by this trendsetting wall covering manufacturer can be seen and felt very soon - at MoOD, of course.

Months of intensive research went into perfecting this product. We can reveal that in addition to its 100 % black out quality, both sides are transfer printable opening up a multitude of new decorative potentialities. But there’s more: the double sided weave consists of one in a ‘classic’ polyester textile and the other in a leading innovative fabric that the world has never seen. The contract market is excited as this blackout curtain is 100 % effective, soft to the touch, washable and meets the French M1 fire resistance requirements. The proud winner will now be seeing many different versions of its product 'Mirror' appearing on the market.

Baroque, classic or modern, each Mirror fabric has a spectacular secret up its sleeve: while it looks like a glossy imitation leather, the appearance changes when it is stretched, either changing its colour or transforming into a vintage leather look. Mirror is enjoying fantastic success on the contract market.

The zany look of this product attracted a lot of attention at MoOD from interior designers specialising in hotels and clubs. The company instantly took up the challenge and developed a hip website that sets the right tone and targets its audience with panache. Nachik has since designed a hiphop and vintage version of Mirror. Check out the video clip on their site and enjoy their creative use of the Blue Drop Award sign.

Last year, the company rewrote the quality standard for imitation leather with the introduction of a new breathing, durable product.

This biosynthetic fabric is based on renewable, natural materials. And Hornschuh is still on trend: the VIP seats at the South Africa World Cup are upholstered in his leatherette - in the colours of South Africa. Hornschuh went one better by creating laif®, a new imitation leather that feels cool in warm weather making it ideal for projects in hot countries. Architects and project designers have found this product seriously ‘cool’. They weren’t alone: laif® picked up the iF design award.

Raymakers & Co is not only a trend-setter in velvet fabrics but also a leader in eco-friendly production values. With the introduction of an organic velvet, it proves that quality and design need not be compromised by a green approach.

The company received the GOTS label for its ecological velvet and attendant production method. Raymakers takes its green ideas beyond its company walls and asks partners to sign a declaration of intent concerning environmental protection in which they promise, for example, a reduced fuel consumption in the transport of their goods.
