Oddly enough this is more revealing about a need than about a trend. But our desire for a positive world image is mainly expressed by an abundance of colors and color combinations which we like to use.

Remarkably many new products are presented in bright colors. Even in outdoor products. Plastibert presented an improbable vibrating simili leather for outdoor use. A similar tour de force was performed by Konrad Hornschuch with an impressive green simili leather for the contract market. The list is seemingly endless, but we still need to mention a few more. Like Bezz who showed a caressable contract textile with colorful waves. Colorful in an almost psychedelic way is the wonderful wallpaper of Eijffinger. The creation of Textile Vilber is utterly happy, with contagiously yellow and red fruits. Red and orange are colors of optimism, which was also proven by Nelen & Delbeke with a collection that reached an energetic climax last fall.

Bezz

But shouting them from the rooftops does not suffice. References play a big part.

A number of exhibitors like to lavishly entertain this fact and have obtained their own triple A status this way, Think back to the illustrious Velours Blafo, which supplied textiles to the Scala in Milan and the Opera of Shanghai. Or the Spanish Textiles Joyper which was asked to provide the decors of the popular TV-series "Cuñados". Fine textile qualities that fully honor a castle of the suite of a hotel chain? That turned out to be the specialty of WIND because their textiles where selected to decorate the Scarlet Hotel in Cornwall, which is known as a 'luxury eco hotel'. Those who take the time to go on a real voyage of discovery on MoOD will quickly experience a tradeshow full of 'hidden heroes'. With beautiful qualities and likewise references. A triple A status is something you have to earn. Even as a tradeshow.

Scala in Milan

With over 200 exhibitors from more than 30 countries MoOD attracts visitors from all over the world.

Compared to other events, MoOD presents the most complete and largest collection of specialists in Upholstery, Window and Wall Coverings. The Contract business is a true MoOD specialty. No less than 25% of the exhibitors are real specialists in contract, realizing at least 30% of their turnover directly in this market. Apart from the Contract Square, a lot of other exhibitors also offer contract qualities. But first and foremost MoOD remains an inspiring attraction where professionals get ideas for color trends, innovations and materials. Buyers with a vision have already penciled in MoOD 2013 in their agenda. And they know why.

Orange for MoOD 2013

Color is thoroughly scrutinized these days. It is more important than ever because we have gradually learned that color translates into emotion. And MoOD is also flowing along with the stream of emotions and optimism.

MoOD is opting for a vibrant but still discrete color: a slightly washed orange. And in the background a sort of grid, a network which symbolizes the way in which companies will have to work tomorrow to be able to make a difference: network, cooperate, cross borders and becoming more powerful unit together. MoOD is such a cross border platform, which is building a future with your help.

Between 'terre natale' and 'co-creation' – MoOD is working on new Trends 2014-2015

Early December the members of the MoOD Trend consulting team went into hiding in Ghent once again. For two days they were isolated from the world to deliberate about…

the world: about social economical tendencies, about evolutions in color, in innovation, in subcultures, in design. And of course about textiles. What predominated from the numerous presentations this year where mostly opposites. The world is hybrid after all and is simultaneously running on multiple gears. Our 'terre natale' is no longer connected to the place we were born. Our 'native soil' is us. We, modern nomads, who feel at home everywhere. Our openness to the world translates into an open creative culture. We create together and look across disciplines just like we are meanwhile used to looking across borders. With a positive vision focused on a colorful future. Tomorrow's consumer does not want any boring uniformity, but unique products with their own story. Look ahead to the new trends of MoOD! Sometimes they contradict each other, but also go hand in hand. The technological revolution is keeping step with the breakthrough of a new type of craftsmanship, resulting in designs that are increasingly complex. They cause us to reflect on luxury, on the return of production to Europe and on downscaling. Trends that MoOD is monitoring closely.

(Download this article as a word document: Nederlands - Français - Deutsch - English)

Because MoOD is and remains the largest and especially the most specialised trade show when it comes to upholstery, window coverings and wall coverings. MoOD is still the pre-eminent place where textile professionals buy the most exceptional textiles. MoOD remains the only place in the world where only original designs are offered. Unlike at the other trade shows, here you will find only the companies who own the design they are offering. They create and produce on their own looms, 70% of which are located in Europe.

ALL INSPIRATIONS MERGED IN THE DISCOVERY ZONE

Our annual survey of visitors to MoOD reveals that they are mainly seeking creativity, innovations and contract. MoOD will centralise this range completely in the Discovery Zone in Hall 7. Here you will find the sample banks, the Blue Drops, the winners of the Blue Drop Awards, the trends (eMOTION), colours and innovations. For the first time, the contract range will be also displayed in the Discovery Zone .

Innovation platform grows again

In addition, this year the innovation platform will grow again. Last year, four partners worked on the selection: MatériO, CELC Masters of Linen, Trendease International and Global Color Research "Mix Publications". In September, the platform will be expanded to include two new partners. The talks are in progress. The names will be announced in the next few weeks.

Contract under one roof with residential

The range of specialised contract products is one of the pillars upon which MoOD rests. So it should not come as any surprise that an increasing number of exhibitors work for both the residential and for the contract market. MoOD is now bringing together the strongest range of contract specialists in Brussels under one clearly arranged platform in the Discovery Zone. They earn the trust of the vistors and, as usual, will receive a contract label that clearly distinguishes them.

Colour, colour, colour!

It will not have escaped anyone's attention that colour is a hot topic in the year 2013, it certainly has not escaped MoOD. That is partly why the Discovery Zone this year is themed around colour. Colour is in the first stages of a revolution, as it were. Whereas the choice of colour used to be a fairly intuitive process, we now see how specialists devote themselves to the emotional impact of colour. Trend colours are closely monitored and tracked. More sometimes than form, they define today's fashions. In the Discovery Zone, MoOD will construct a wondrous visual spectacle based on the trend colours from 'eMOTION', the MoOD trend forecast.

Sharing information: follow the guide!

Social and scientific changes that guide trends are immaterial and can only be conveyed in the form of information. Many visitors would also like to receive that information in addition to the visual experience without having to plod through long written pieces. That is why, for the first time, MoOD will make a permanent guide available in the Discovery Zone. A passionate source of information who will simply talk to everyone.

EXPERIENCE MoOD

While information and inspiration are merged in hall 7, a cozy experiential zone will arise in hall 11. There will be a MoOD Trendcafé, a large reading table and library with an unlikely selection of magazines - most of them partners of MoOD. You will also find the trend houses, styling and colour advisors and Young MoOD.

Brussels Design September & Visit Brussels

Something new is the cooperation with Brussels Design September, hosting over 100 international design events in Brussels from 5th to 30th September. The programme is already very promising with numerous inspiring textile design projects that connect nicely with the programme of MoOD. Those who want to gain even more creative ideas after their visit to the trade show can head into the city to gain even more inspiration. You can find more information at www.designseptember.be.

If you are planning a nice trip, you can have all your questions answered at Visit Brussels, our partner last year as well (www.visitbrussels.be).

Show time with Trendease.tv

There are plans for an ever richer experience in cooperation with Trendease International. They are providing a professional team that will make short documentaries together with companies that will be exhibiting at MoOD. Topics such as ecology, new talent and new products will be offered and can be seen starting at the end of May on Trendease.tv.

TOGETHER WITH INDIGO AND MoOD YARNS

MoOD and MoOD Yarns will again devote attention to yarns that push the boundaries of the art of weaving. Our sister show Indigo is also gathering together designs for the future. They are helping to make MoOD a larger and greater whole.

WHY YOU SIMPLY CANNOT MISS MoOD

*According to the professional magazine Arcade MoOD has so much to offer, that not attending, is missing out a lot.

*Compared to other events, MoOD presents the most complete and largest collection of specialists in Upholstery, Window and Wall Coverings.

*With nearly 200 exhibitors from more than 25 countries MoOD attracts visitors from all over the world. In 2012, 2650 companies from over 100 countries visited MoOD. 81% is coming from Europe, followed by Asia, North America, Central and South America and Africa. Nearly all of them are decision makers.

Patrick Geysels,
General Manager
Como, May 9, 2013

(Download this article as a word document: Nederlands - Français - Deutsch - English)

Terre Natale

More and more people resist against the overpowering ADHD economy. Terre Natale embodies switch off, experience, enjoying simplicity and tranquillity. We no longer have to own things, because ownership is linked to a feeling of lack of freedom. 'No to ownership, yes to access' is the key to freedom. Just like nationalism and identity connects us to our Terre Natale, but we do not need to live there to be a part of it. The materials and colours in Terre Natale are connected to the earth, water and nature.

Key words:
Freedom, Switch Off, No to Ownership, Yes to Access, Native Soil, Earth.

So(u)laris

The way we look at the world is changing. Transparency and openness, light-heartedness, love and honesty are basic skills. Literally and figuratively. These values are almost always associated with light and soft colours. So(u)laris embraces the return of the mysticism and colours so very very white. The emotion of So(u)laris is magic and poetic but never dramatic. She is just barely controlled and sometimes even turned inwards and resigned.

Key words:
Transparency, Love, Poetry, Mystiscism, Light-heartedness, Co-creation

Colorfools

Today more than ever, we understand how much colour influences our mind. Companies that provide colour consultancy are popping up all over the world and more and more architects and designers are approaching an architectural space from the emotional experience they want to provoke. Colour also stands for a promise. The fact that we are so crazy about colour indicates that we are fed up with the crisis. The colours in this scene are rebelling against the so called 'designer's colours' of the last decade. They are pure, honest and like to reveal themselves on smooth, plain materials.

Key words:
Optimism, Colours, Fools, Play, Pure colours, Honest, Promise

Foils

Foils are omnipresent in fashion. They are also about to burst into the interior. Technically speaking they are a masterpiece and even their functionality serves a higher goal. They owe their breakthrough to the fact they also fulfil an esthetical function. The arrival of the foils is an extension of the success of the metallics in wall paints and the glitter in accessories. It is the proof of the newfound confidence in the future.

Key words:
Foils, Metallics, Innovation, Moving Colours, Iridescent Colours, Future, Sci-Fi
