Embrace Market Evolutions at MoOD

03-07-2017 in Connect

MoOD understands the importance of staying on top of market changes and that the industries of upholstery, window and wallcoverings are undergoing some intriguing evolutions.  These new technologies, innovations, and talent can be found in Brussels during MoOD in collaboration with Trendease International, which has curated the MoOD Tech, MoOD Innovation, and Launch Pad areas to run alongside the long-standing MoOD exhibitors, experts in weaving and textile development.

In MoOD Tech visitors will be able to embrace the future of smart textiles, thermochromic inks, and conductive embroidery; and that is just the tip of the iceberg.  LEDs in textiles from Swiss company Forster Rohner shine a new light on the possibilities.  Continuing with the ecosystem theme, those interested in wallcoverings and a variety of types of digital print will be able to find the latest substrates to enter the market from Ahlstrom, novel inks, supporting software, and print service providers—even product launches like Big Impact’s Haptic 2.5D Textural Printing.

Also, with the rise of micro-manufacturing we will have companies on hand that support this movement.  There is a pop-up shop that will be selling some products to raise money to fund the involvement of new talent at future editions of MoOD, so be sure to stop by to find a little something for a good cause.  Some of the companies to be found in MoOD Tech within Shed 1 include the Smart Textiles Design Lab from the University of Boras in Sweden, Statex and ZSK from Germany, plus BeFab BeCreative and Kalopsia of Scotland.  And keep an eye out – you may even find a robotic friend roaming around the area!

In Shed 3 Bis Innovation is everywhere!  The attention-drawing Innovation Platform returns alongside not-to-be-missed exhibitors, in addition to a whole fresh batch of new talent in the Launch Pad, creatives who have been in the industry five years or less.

  • Also find companies innovating materials such as Digital Design from Italy with their various mediums like ceramic, cement, wood, glass, and paper that are laser engraved to create unique surfaces.
  • Some of the companies showcasing in this area are Woodchip & Magnolia from the UK, Sarah Merenda from the US with both with very stylish wallcoverings.
  • Muuna will blow your mind with woven and embroidered fabrics with cultivated mineral surfaces and other experimental materials.
  • Sustainability and cultural heritage come into play with Rachel Dawson’s indigenous natural colorants inspired by processes from the 17th Century.
  • Esther Van Schuylenbergh, a local to Gent, Belgium, embraces the weaving tradition of the area with a modern twist.
  • BeYonder specializes in supporting independent designers with small-batch prototyping and bespoke manufacturing.
  • Also find budding talent from the University of Bolton, Leeds College of Art, and the Cleveland College of Art and Design.

Plus there will be some inspiring talks to keep you on top of opportunities in the market including topics such as micro-manufacturing, digital printing, conductive embroidery, smart textiles, and the business potential of textile waste/scraps.  Of course we will have regular Trendease guided tours of the new excitement at the show as well!

So many novelties for interior application to be found at MoOD this September 6-8; upholstery, window and wallcoverings…and beyond!  From materials to services, come with an idea and leave with the tools to produce it!
